Heterocyclic compounds are cyclic organic compounds with at least one hetero atoms (normally Nitrogen, Oxygen or Sulfur) other than carbon. Nucleic acids, the majority of drugs (59% of US-FDA approved drugs contain Nitrogen heterocycles) and many natural and synthetic drugs are heterocycles.
